Sometimes all it takes is a moment of inattention and… it happened. Our favourite jumper treated too high temperature in the wash turns into children’s clothing. How to stretch shrunk wool?
Method 1: Gentle stretching
Soak the garment: Place the shrunk wool in warm water and let it sit for a few minutes to soak the fabric.
Stretch and Form: Gently stretch the garment where it shrinks the most. You can also gently mold them, giving them the desired shape.
Dry in a stretched form: After stretching, lay the garment on a flat surface to dry, giving it the desired shape.
Method 2: Blocking
Prepare the pad: Lay the wet shrunken garment flat on a towel or wool block pad. You can also use, for example, the back of a chair
Stretch and Pin: Gently stretch the garment over the pad, using pins or special pins to keep it stretched.
Leave to dry: Leave the garment as it is until it is completely dry. This will keep the stretch in place.
Method 3: Bathing your wool sweater in a nutrient solution
Prepare the solution: Fill a bowl with warm water and add a little special wool conditioner.
Soak the garment: Place the shrunk wool in the solution and let it sit for a few hours or overnight.
Gently stretch: After soaking, gently stretch the garment and then rinse it with clean water.
Dry in a stretched form: After stretching, arrange the clothes to dry, keeping them in a stretched form.
Remember. Stretch shrunk wool, not always working!
These methods can help stretch shrunk wool, but the effects can vary depending on the type of fabric and the degree of shrinkage. And unfortunately, they won’t always work. You also have to be careful not to damage the sweater.
It’s worth trying. But sometimes you just have to let go. And our favorite sweater, now only in size xxs to give away … to the child.
