Wool jumper in good condition. Five natural ways to care for your handmade wool sweaters!

Wool jumper may sometimes need to be cleaned of dirt or pilling. You can use a soft brush for this and gently comb the sweater.

To remove stains, use a mild woolen soap or a solution of water and apple cider vinegar.

1. Store sweaters in an airy place

Wool sweaters are worth keeping in a flat position in an airy bag or box, they can also be in foil. But they can’t be packed in damp.

So you need to look at them once in a while and check if the sweater is everything’s all right. We don’t hang sweaters so that they don’t deform. Wool jumpers are heavy, when they are wet.

2. Also protect your jumper from insects

Wool can attract moths and other insects that can damage the fibres. You can protect the sweater from insects by storing it in special bags or using, for example, lavender bags.

3. Avoid sharp jewelry or zippers:

Wool sweaters are delicate. It’s easy to get caught with a sharp object and damage the sweater. A pulled thread is often difficult to hide afterwards.

4. Remember: Every kind of wool is different

The care of wool jumper may vary depending on the particular sweater, the type of wool it is made of. Some wools are much more delicate than others. Each has its own specifics.

Read labels and care instructions on packaging, check online. If you can’t find such information online – ask where you bought the sweater. Remember not to take risks if you are unsure.

5. Just take care of your wooly jumper

Do not wear it where you can damage it or get it very dirty, e.g. when painting. But also… give your icelandic wool sweater time to rest. Once in a while, let it breathe and return to its original shape.

It’s a good idea to hang it outside once in a while. If you only take care of it, you will certainly be able to enjoy your wool sweater for a long time!
